Of course the most popular sports to be found on the island are those tied to the sea and therefore to water activities. The sea floors of the Island of Giglio are, in fact, considered by experts to be among the most beautiful and interesting, as well as well-preserved, in the whole Mediterranean. On the island there are many scuba diving centres for all levels, and they also organise snorkeling excursions. In just a week it is possible to enroll in a course and get a license for first level submersions. There are also swimming and sailing lessons. There are tennis courts and a football pitch.

The Island of Giglio is a relatively quiet island which does not have an overly developed night-life. This is probably the reason that young people really appreciate the few but authentic nightspots that there are, because they provide the right atmosphere to make new friends and meet again someone you may have seen out at sea or on the beach. The place most people head for at night is the main town, Giglio Castello, where most nightspots are and where, within the castle's walls, new romantic relationships are often born in the labyrinth of enchanting alleys. There are some pubs, a dance hall, bars with live and sometimes spontaneous music and many wineries with the typical Ansonaco wine (responsible for some unforgettably cheerful times). In Giglio Campese there is a pub, an amusement arcade, some piano bars and ... a beautiful beach under the stars. At Giglio Porto you can take a long walk along the harbour and do some shopping at the numerous multi-coloured shops that are open till late at night. There is a good piano bar overlooking the sea, some good bars with verandas over the sea that are open till late.

L’Isola del Giglio è un’isola abbastanza tranquilla e non troppo sviluppata verso gli intrattenimenti notturni. Forse proprio per questo i giovani apprezzano molto i pochi ma genuini locali che ci sono, poichè favoriscono le nuove conoscenze, permettono facili incontri e di rivedere qualcuno visto di giorno al mare o sulla spiaggia. Il luogo più frequentato nella vita notturna è il capoluogo, Giglio Castello, dove si trovano il maggior numero di locali e dove, all’interno delle mura del Castello, nel labirinto dei romantici vicoli che spesso e volentieri sono stati luoghi di nascita di nuovi amori. Sono presenti alcuni pubs, una sala da ballo, bars con musica dal vivo e spesso spontanea e molte tipiche cantine con il tipico vino ansonaco (responsabile di indimenticabili sbornie o momenti di allegria). A Giglio Campese c’è un pub, una sala giochi, dei piani bar e … una bellissima spiaggia sotto le stelle. A Giglio Porto è possibile fare una bella passeggiata lungo il porto e darsi allo shopping tra i numerosi e variopinti negozi aperti fino a notte inoltrata. C’e’ un buon piano bar sul mare, vari buoni bars con veranda sul mare aperti fino a tardi. |

| Excursions |

Special boats leave from Giglio Porto for trips to the nearby island of Giannutri and the island of Pianosa. It is possible to
take a day mini cruise from Porto S. Stefano to visit the southern islands of the Tuscany Archipelago, Giannutri-Montecristo-Elba, with a stop also on Giglio on the way out and way back. From Giglio Porto there are also boats for a tour of the island which stop to let you have a swim. At the bathing establishments along the main beaches, you can organise your own tour of the island using dinghies or small boats with a boatman. Just remember that the Island of Giglio is located in a wonderful area: the Tuscany Maremma. For those who stay on the island for more than a week we recommend you take one day, even leaving in the morning and coming back at night, to visit the nearby Tuscan towns of Saturnia, Pitigliano, Vulcri, Tarquinia, Massa Marittima, Montalcino, S. Gimignano, Volterra, l'Amiata, Siena and, a little further away but which can still be visited from morning to evening, Florence, Orvieto, Cerveteri and Rome.

No permission is needed for sport fishing in all the waters and along the shores which encircle the island. The waters are rocky and along the shoreline there is often sand with posidonie, so it is the ideal habitat for the numerous species of fish. Fishing on the shore is fun for all, even for the most ambitious. For those who like fishing from a boat, fishing with bollentino is extremely effective, but true enthusiasts can also do trolling or drift fishing, in fact the whole year round the island sees a lot of dentex, "tanute", pike, tuna and amberjacks of all sizes. In September the "amberjack trophy" has been organised for residents and visitors alike. |

The Island of Giglio has many trails, some of which can be quite challenging, that let you discover the hidden treasures of this still wild and uncontaminated region, and which wind through woods of Mediterranean brushwood (holm-oaks, arbutus, etc.), pine forests and rocky landscapes, with amazing views to allow you to rediscover the true meaning of man's contact with nature. Our agency can provide you with a map of all the recommended trails and all the information to make your trekking an unforgettable experience. Some trails will even take you to stretches of coast, beaches, coves and beautiful reefs where it is possible, even in the high season, to be absolutely alone to enjoy the sea, and of course the fantastic sunsets for which the island is famous.

Good cooking on the island is a cultural matter and is therefore a true art. We will be delighted to advise you on restaurants where you can eat delicious typical dishes, especially fish dishes. There are also pizzerias, excellent ice cream shops and bars.

| Rentals, transport |
 |
The more independent visitors can rent rubber dinghies or boats. Motorcycles can be rented at Giglio Porto and are a great way to get around the island. Cars can circulate freely and finding a parking spot is not so difficult. However, transport services, both public (buses) and private (minibuses) are excellent. Canoes, surfboards, small sailboats and motorboats can be rented from the beach establishments.. |
